This 6-week course covers the essentials of using Adobe Photoshop to edit and enhance your images. Lessons are 1 hour each.

This is an online course taking place on monday afternoons from 4 to 5pm. The course takes place on 1,8,15,22,29 June and 6 July via google meet.

Students must bring their own laptop and have an active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

Course objectives

  • Understand Photoshop’s interface and core workflow

  • Perform non-destructive edits using layers and masks

  • Correct exposure, color, contrast, and white balance

  • Remove blemishes and unwanted elements using retouching tools

  • Use selection tools and layer masks for precise composites

  • Apply basic sharpening, noise reduction, and export settings for web and print

Course schedule (6 one-hour lessons) Week 1 — Introduction & Workspace

  • Photoshop layout: panels, toolbar, menus

  • Creating/opening files, document settings, and saving

  • Navigating canvas: zoom, hand tool, rulers, and guides

Week 2 — Layers, Blending Modes & Basic Adjustments

  • Layer basics: create, rename, group, reorder

  • Blend modes overview and practical uses

  • Adjustment layers: Levels, Curves, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation

Week 3 — Selections & Masks

  • Selection tools: Marquee, Lasso, Quick Selection, Magic Wand

  • Refine Edge/Select and Mask workflow

  • Layer masks vs. vector masks; painting masks for non-destructive edits

Week 4 — Retouching & Healing

  • Spot Healing, Healing Brush, Patch tool, Clone Stamp

  • Frequency separation overview for skin retouching (basic application)

  • Content-Aware Fill and object removal techniques

Week 5 & 6 — creative appraoches to PS

  • Developing editing tchniques

  • looking at photogorahy will an creative eye

Materials & requirements

  • Laptop with Photoshop (part of Adobe Creative Cloud) installed and updated

  • Active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription

  • Sample images will be provided, but bring personal photos for practice

  • Optional: graphics tablet for detailed retouching

Teaching format

  • Hands-on demonstrations followed by guided practice

  • Short homework tasks between lessons to reinforce skills

  • Q&A time each session to address individual issues
